Mazda rotary sports car concept to debut in Tokyo!
Posted on September 18, 2017
One step closer to making this a production reality. It’s one of the worst-kept secrets at Mazda today: the fact that it’s working on a new rotary engine for a production car. We’ve seen evidence of such a project, specifically the stunning RX Vision concept that debuted a few years ago at Geneva. Since then, Mazda has neither confirmed nor unconfirmed if it’ll make production. But new evidence has come to light. We spoke to Mazda Vice President for R&D at Frankfurt last week and learned that its ongoing SkyActiv engine development program includes plans for a new rotary. [...more]

Tesla loses 63,000 Model 3 preorder holders in a year!

That’s a big $63 million refund check Musk needs to cut. Every starry-eyed entrepreneur might look at someone like Elon Musk and want to follow in his footsteps, but it’s right about now that wishing to be the ballsy CEO is a crazy thing to do. With the world anxiously waiting to see how quickly the entrepreneur—who made his fortune in the tech world and not in the manufacturing realm—can ramp up production of a car slated to change the world, stress levels seem to be at an extreme. Ferrari manage to keep Mercedes behind to take race win in Hungary!
Posted on July 30, 2017
Sebastian Vettel, hampered by a “hanging” steering, kept Kimi Raikkonen at bay to win the Hungarian GP, his first race win since May. Fighting for position, Max Verstappen locked up and understeered into Daniel Ricciardo at Turn 2, damaging his team-mate’s RB13. With his car losing fluid, Ricciardo spun at Turn 4 and retired. “Is that who I think it was?” Ricciardo asked over radio. “Yeah.” “Sore loser.” [...more]

Posted on July 29, 2017

Qualifying runs with low fuel and fresh supersoft rubber saw the Hungaroring’s lap record slashed several times during qualifying on Saturday. The record was broken twice in Q2, first by Vettel and then Hamilton, before the Ferrari driver slashed it to a 1:16.276 on his opening race in Q3. [...more]

Meet the Mercedes truck, the X-Class!
Posted on July 19, 2017
Thankfully it looks almost exactly like the X-Class Concept. There’s a reason Mercedes chose South Africa as the backdrop for the reveal of the X-Class pickup, the carmaker’s first dedicated passenger truck that, unlike truck versions of the G-Class built for the military, is intended for civilian use. It’s all because within the borders of Africa’s more developed nation, truck sales account for 17% of all passengers and light commercial vehicle sales and Mercedes wants to be a part of that party. And it will, at least from what can be inferred by the fact it left the X-Class concept almost fully intact. [...more]

The latest creation from Porsche could break Nurburgring lap record!
Posted on July 4, 2017
Will the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS beat the 918 Spyder’s lap time? After denying its existence despite debuting at the E3 gaming convention last month, Porsche finally lifted the wraps off the new 911 GT2 RS at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last week, and it was worth the wait. Powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine from the current 911 Turbo S that produces 700-hp, the GT2 RS is the most powerful road-going 911 Porsche has ever made, with a 0-60 mph time of 2.7 seconds. Clearly, this incredible car was built to set blistering lap times. Question is, how fast will it rip round the Nurburgring? [...more]

When a $50 million Ferrari collection isnt enough for Ferrari..
Posted on June 19, 2017
When the uber rich get denied. Only 200 examples of the LaFerrari Aperta are being built, and despite the $2.2 million price tag, Ferrari is having absolutely no problem selling all of them. As is common with Ferrari, there’s far greater demand than supply, but what’s needed to get on that exclusive 200-person list? The Los Angeles Times has done a great write up about watch and jewelry entrepreneur David Lee, who’s also a serial Ferrari collector (and Pagani Huayra owner). Over the year’s he’s amassed a Ferrari collection now worth $50 million. [...more]

Americas track monster, the Dodge Viper ACR is back for another crack at the Nurburgring record!
Posted on June 7, 2017
Can last generation race car tech and driver skill beat the Lamborghini Huracan Performante and McLaren P1 GTR? When you picture the typical Gofundme campaign, you think of a family earning minimum wage trying to pay for their kid’s leukemia treatment, an aspiring doctor trying to get med school tuition, and the occasional sly teenager who’s trying to get their hands on the latest game console with a pity story. But the site is also full of unconventional grass roots efforts, like the Take Back The Ring campaign that seeks to put the Dodge Viper ACR back on the Nurburgring lap time leaderboard. [...more]

Posted on May 17, 2017
The X-Men actor is channelling his inner Steve McQueen. We could be looking at the new king of cool. It’s not uncommon for Hollywood actors who are passionate gearheads to become racing drivers. Patrick Dempsey has ambitions of becoming a full time racing driver having competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans among many other disciplines, while the legendary Steve McQueen used his real-life racing experience to produce the infamous 1971 Le Mans movie, a passion project which ultimately flopped. Michael Fassbender can now also be added to the growing list of Hollywood actors turned racing drivers. [...more]

Take it to the track and then straight to the rally race... as long as you’re cool with putting dings on a six-figure car. Maurizio Reggiani is the head of Lamborghini’s research and development sector, and given the sorts of odd futuristic projects the Italian supercar marquee is adding to its portfolio lately, he’s the sort of man you want to listen to for a trip into the future of one of the most desirable brands on the planet. He recently sat down with Digital Trends to give the topic of the upcoming Urus a whirl and using the SUV as a beacon for Lamborghini’s future, it can be gathered that things will get juiced up. Posted on May 11, 2017
Looks like the Mercedes S-Class Coupe has a new rival. Rumors have been rife for years that BMW is planning to revive the legendary 8 Series grand-tourer after an 18-year hiatus, which remains popular with BMW aficionados despite only 31,000 models being built between 1989 and 1999. Evidence that BMW is gearing up to revive the hulking luxury coupe has been mounting. Earlier this year, the automaker silently killed off the 6-Series, and an 8 Series test mule was recently spotted being put through its paces at the Nurburgring, implying that an announcement is imminent. Who Would Like To See A Tesla Supercar? We Certainly Would..
Posted on May 8, 2017
We wouldn't mind if it looked something like this. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again. For Tesla to maintain its image as a premium carmaker while delivering an affordable car in the shape of the Model 3, it should seriously consider building a halo car. Lexus did it with the LFA, Ford has done it with the GT and there’s no reason why Tesla couldn’t do something similar to this Model EXP concept, created by Spanish rendering artist Xabier Albizu. Elon Musk recently confirmed that a revamped Roadster is in the pipeline, albeit a few years away, and that it will set a new performance benchmark. [...more]

Ultra-Lightweight Porsche 911 Leichtbau To Sell For Half A Million At Auction!
Posted on May 1, 2017
It's no 911 R, but the 911 "lightweight construction" is as enticing as a piece of Porsche history can get. The task of the automobile and each of its individual subgenres has constantly been changing to adapt to new demands, but more recently the role of the car as an investment has become the norm and unfortunately, it seems as if the models that are the most fun to drive and that should be more prevalent on the road are the types that become garage queens. Thankfully, Silverstone Auctions’ May Sale gives you a chance to right this wrong when the 1993 Porsche 911 Turbo S Leichtbau goes to the auction block. [...more]

Hardcore Ferrari 488 To Revive The GTO Badge
Posted on April 26, 2017
You knew that Ferrari was never going to take coming onslaughts from Porsche and Mercedes without striking back. Even though Porsche hardly sells more cars than the AMG wing of Mercedes, sitting atop the German sports car throne can be a bit of an ordeal. Each year it seems that another automaker announces its own crack at the 911’s reign of terror, and though Mercedes and McLaren have been searching for a weak point in Porsche’s armor for years, it’s a marker of what the automaker has accomplished when Maranello begins to do the same. According to Autocar, that’s what Ferrari is doing. [...more]
